If your organization is a Microsoft 365 subscriber, you can do your best work anywhere.
This cloud-based service offers a comprehensive, integrated toolset aimed at streamlining how you work. That’s good news for you – and good news for your customers, colleagues, and company, given the resulting increase in efficiency, insight, and productivity.
What’s in it for you?
The Basics
The Microsoft 365 subscription includes its time tested productivity applications – designed to help you communicate, create, analyze, and present. Products used on a routine basis worldwide include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
Cloud-Based Storage
The files you generate need to be securely stored somewhere, and with a Microsoft 365 subscription that somewhere is SharePoint. The integration between the Office Suite and SharePoint makes adding, modifying, and sharing content a simple process. Files referenced by groups are stored in libraries and libraries are contained within SharePoint sites. Who can access these repositories and how they can interact with the content are managed by organizing individuals into groups and granting them appropriate permissions.
There is also a SharePoint based storage point just for you, for your personal files. It is referred to as the My Files in your OneDrive. In addition to housing your files, OneDrive serves as a portal to the cloud-files you favorite and work with most frequently. With your files in the cloud you can add, review, and modify information from anywhere with Internet connectivity. And, for situations where you need access to select files while offline, it is possible to work with local instances that are synced to the main repositories once Internet access is restored.
Collaboration and Communication Options
Throughout the workday we search, we share, we communicate, and we collaborate. SharePoint is more than just file storage and includes a variety of noteworthy features that you can intertwine, digitally transforming how you share knowledge, collaborate, and manage repetitive tasks. However, toggling between email, SharePoint, and other tools in support of our efforts may become time-consuming and inefficient.
To resolve this issue, Microsoft provides Teams as part of your M365 subscription. Teams is a unified communications platform that brings together chat, video conferencing, file sharing, and the tools we use most frequently into a single, integrated interface. By consolidating these essential functions, Teams streamlines managing the workday.
Task Management
Your subscription also includes integrated task management tools, To Do and Planner. These apps help you create, manage, and track tasks in the applications you frequent most, Outlook and Teams.
For your individual task management needs you can use either tool to:
- View flagged emails
- Create and view private tasks
- Prioritize and view your tasks for the day
- View tasks assigned to you
If you are an individual that organizes team-based work (like Projects), Planner supports organizing tasks into plans and managing the schedule, assignment, and completion of those tasks by the team members.
There May be More
Depending on your organization’s Microsoft licensing, you may have access to additional features and functionality that could digitally transform and elevate the way you manage work. These may include Power BI and Microsoft365 Copilot, tools that can accelerate your access, analysis, and summarization of information as you strive to have an impact and reach impactful business decisions.
